A funny thing happened while running yesterday. I was about 5 mile into my 9 mile run when I came across a “Duck Crossing” sign. Nothing unusual about that except for the fact it is in the middle of a neighborhood with no water in sight. I don’t know if this was funny because I was hot and dilerious, or just taking my mind off of the torture I was putting myself through on this hot June Morning. I thought to myself “What a crock of crap” and just as the thought entered my mind, 11 white ducks ran across the street in front of me. Hmmm…..

I’m an early morning runner. 4:30AM to be exact. I live in a subburb and my running route takes me passed creeks and bayous. I was trudging through the last 1/4 of my run this morning when all of a sudden I heard a noise that sounded like an animal charging me. I turned real fast and still could not see it. the noise of tree branches and running became louder and louder the hair on my neck was totally standing on end. Still I could not see it, my heart was pounding through my chest, and then it appeared. A big ol’ bird trying to fly away through the tree branches. I must have startled it. I pretty much was able to sprint home the rest of the way. Like Bill Cosby once said “First I said the word, then I did it!” (LOL). at least it wasn’t a dog. Have a great run, David

I’ve only been running for a month or two at this point. My wife just doesn’t understand the desire that pushes runners to run. I believe you have to be a little O.C.D. to truely get into it. I am just now starting to experience the quirks and minor irritations other runners have experienced : referring to 5 miles as a short run, sore knees, cramps, chaffing, or for instance my wife’s face this morning when she walked into the bathroom and caught me rubbing vasoline on my nipples. Sometimes it’s best just not to try to explain your actions and let them stand there flabbergasted. Priceless.

I am so glad I run in the morning.(No witnesses) I consider myself a pretty brave guy, hell, I'll run into a burning building with out a second thought to it. HOWEVER, I DON'T DO SPIDERS!!!! I must have screamed like a little school girl four different times before dawn. On my 9 mile run I ran through at least 20 different spider webs. Four of those times I felt the spider on me.  I couldn't image what a freak show I was putting on for all the neighbors. Thank God I wasn't wearing a Fire Dept. shirt. One of Friendswood's Finest. (LOL).

RELEASE THE HOUNDS!

I have to admit I'm not sure if I'm just a child at heart, or a big fool.  I have found myself enjoying the neighbors automatic lawn sprinklers a little to much.  I look like (Alex) from the movie Flashdance running in place with the water hitting all over me. All I need is the leg warmers. I already have the song "Maniac" playing in my head. I fear one of these days someone will open their front door and have their dogs run me off. Boy oh boy does that water feel good on the long run days. Until then I'll have my fun... =P
